Rock Beats Paper! Tree-free substrate plays integral role at Exhibit in Prospect Park

GSB Digital Sponsors Exhibit to Celebrate 150 Years of Prospect Park

GSB Digital is helping celebrate Prospect Park’s 150th year anniversary through sponsorship of The Connective Project, a collaborative public art project. To commemorate the occasion, The Connective Project encourages the public to submit imagery that is inspired by the love of Prospect Park to be printed and displayed in a massive installation in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Rose Garden. Submissions from local artists, children’s centers and the general public will come together to create an art installation of over 7000 pinwheels, which will be on display for 10 days starting July 7, 2017. Each pinwheel will be printed with the artist’s designs using HP Indigo digital printing technology, and transformed into a beautiful display that will celebrate the diversity and beauty of Brooklyn’s Prospect Park.

In preparation for this outdoor display, the use of weather proof materials were highly considered. To support the parks desire to use a green material instead of a plastic, GSB Digital suggested a non traditional substrate made primarily of stone based particles; GPA Ultra Green Film. Unlike traditional paper, Ultra Green Film is manufactured without the use of trees, water or toxic agents including bleaching chemicals. This result in an environmentally responsible substrate that offers unrivaled visual quality, press performance and environmental impact. Because this “paper” isn’t made with traditional processes, UV rays will not do damage to the printed images. As time goes on the display won’t yellow or show wear-and-tear, ensuring a long-lasting and beautiful tribute to the park’s legacy.

GSB Digital has committed to partnering with The Connective Initiative to provide the printed materials needed for this historic event. Using our HP Indigo digital printing press, we are able to print each high-quality, individual image in a fraction of the time of traditional printing methods. The paperless substrate provides the perfect canvas for our HP Electroinks to create a durable, lasting image that will show beautifully in the park exhibit. We are happy to contribute to this amazing display of community, art, and appreciation for the park.
